Project Background

Employee engagement among remote employees has been low since the Covid-19 pandemic when many employees were shifted to working from home. Those that were once working onsite lost their ability to engage with colleagues through planned activities that were catered to their interests. Additionally, employees that joined the company as remote workers did not have access to these engagement groups either. Because of this, there was a need for a program that would allow Hybrid, On-site and Remote employees to engage no matter the type of worker that they are.

The Engagement Team wanted to develop a platform for remote, hybrid, and on-site employees to connect and engage on different topics of interest. Better Together is a program that was designed to foster a great place to work, support inclusion/belonging, encourage recognition, inspire social responsibility, develop leaders and share best practices. The team needed a way to enable everyone to be included in these goals.

Research Goals

Research Questions

To understand if employees would be interested in joining a new Microsoft Teams group with all remote employees to engage virtually. Also, to understand if employees would be interested in being randomly matched for virtual “coffee dates” to get to know their colleagues.

  • Would you be interested in joining a new Teams group with all remote employees to connect virtually?

  • Would you be interested in being randomly matched for virtual “coffee dates” to get to know others in the organization?

Methodology

  • This project will be completed by developing a survey in Qualtrics. This survey will be live for two weeks, as requested by the Engagement Team.

  • The data will be analyzed in Microsoft Excel and presented in Microsoft Powerpoint.

  • The survey questions include a demographics section, questions about current engagement in Better Together activities, preferences on meeting types, and interest in engaging virtually with remote employees.

  • The results will be presented using Microsoft Powerpoint.

Participants

The participants will only include Home Team Bright Horizons employees. Home Team includes all non-field US based employees. This will include Remote, Hybrid (Newton & Broomfield), and On-site employees (Newton & Broomfield). Home Team employees are the selected population since Operations (Center Staff) typically do not have the ability to step away from their students for engagement purposes.

The Engagement team chose the final designs and platform. Microsoft Teams was selected for Better Together to make it easier for employees to connect during working hours on a familiar platform. This group is now called "Universal Remote" and it features thirteen different channels for employees to connect on their common interests.
